Questions about Pines cottage
Where is it located?
Pines Cottage located on Nimshew Road, at the end of a long private driveway, about two miles off of Skyway in Magalia.

How much does it cost?
Rent is $595 which includes water and garbage pickup. There's a deposit of $995.

How many people can live there?
Because of the size of the residence, 955 square feet and the septic system, occupancy is limited to no more than two adults and one child, or one adult and two children. Parking is limited to two vehicles.

Do you accept pets?
If you're a responsible pet owner and understand the importance of making sure your pet is well-behaved, we'll consider having it at our rental. A special pet security deposit will be required if your pet is accepted.

What about the neighbors?
Pines Cottage shares more than 100 acres with one neighbor, your landlords! They're a friendly, middle-aged, hard-working, Christian couple who've been married for 25 years and have two sons who are away at college.

What about the heating and cooling?
There is a propane wall heater between the living room and bedroom and a propane "woodstove" in the kitchen. There is also electric baseboard heat. The home is shaded and well-insulated so air conditioning is generally not needed in the summertime.

What about other utilities?
The water heater is an economical propane "on demand" type. The clothes dryer and kitchen range are also propane powered. Delicious, pure drinking water comes straight from a 500-foot deep well.

What about smoking?
This house and property has never been smoked in, and we plan on keeping it that way.

Is cable TV and internet available?
Cable TV isn't available on Nimshew Road. Satellite TV is available through DirectTV.com and DishNetwork.com. Prices start at $29.95/ month.
Standard internet access is available via modem. DirecWay.com offers high-speed satellite access starting at $59.99 per month. Cable internet and DSL are not available.

How far from town is it?

How close is public transportation?
The Butte Regional Transit "B Line" can pick you up at the corner of Nimshew and Carnegie. Click here for routes and schedules. Here is a link to the Butte College bus schedule.

What is life like at Pines Cottage?
Adopt an apple tree, plant a garden, or entertain guests on your back patio. At 2,300 foot elevation, summertime temperatures are about 10° cooler than in Chico. The winters are mild. Snowfall is rare, light, and usually melts in a single day. You may need snow chains, 4WD or to make special travel arrangements an average of one day per year.
You can safely walk, bike, or jog down Nimshew Road anytime, day or night—traffic is sparse. You are close to hiking, biking, backpacking, fishing, boating, and canoeing. You can watch for squirrels, wild turkeys, deer, rabbits, raccoons, quail, and the occasional bobcat from your back patio. It's quiet, clean, and peaceful.
It's safe and it's pretty. You'll think you're on vacation—but you're home!
